Fly Fishing
El Pescador Lodge in Belize is a haven for anglers, with its diverse fishing opportunities and knowledgeable guides. The main species targeted by visiting anglers are Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, and Snook, with additional opportunities for Tuna, Wahoo, Grouper, Snapper, and Barracuda over the reef.
One of the highlights of El Pescador is its large Tarpon flats, which are considered one of the few outside of Florida. Ambergris Caye offers year-round sight fishing for Tarpon, with resident fish weighing up to eighty pounds and migrating Tarpon reaching up to two hundred pounds during the season.
The lodge also boasts world-class bonefishing and excellent permit fishing. While larger Permit prefer the deeper ocean flats, smaller schools of fish can be found cruising around the shallows in the mangroves and channels where Snook also frequent. Most of the permit fishing is done from skiffs (Pangas), but there are opportunities for walking and wading as well.
The experienced guides at El Pescador are among the finest in Belize, with many of them having been with the resort for over twenty years. They have intimate knowledge of the fishing, tides, and fish movements, providing guests with the best chance to catch fish. They also offer tuition and workshops for those needing casting assistance.
While it is recommended for anglers to bring their own gear, El Pescador has a well-stocked tackle shop that can cover emergencies and offer rental equipment and flies, leaders, etc. A typical day at the lodge starts after breakfast, with anglers leaving the dock with their guide and skiff at 8:00 am and returning around 3:00 pm. Extended fishing hours can be arranged for an additional fee.
With its exceptional fishing opportunities, experienced guides, and beautiful surroundings, El Pescador Lodge is a top destination for anglers seeking a memorable fishing adventure in Belize.
