Abaco lodge

Abaco Lodge stands out as the premier fly-fishing operation offering direct access to the expansive Marls of Abaco, renowned as one of the most legendary bonefishing destinations. With vast, unpressured flats teeming with bonefish, anglers can expect remarkable fishing experiences, often averaging twenty fish days.
Step away from the breakfast table and stroll to the dock where experienced guides and a fleet of Maverick flats skiffs eagerly await to accompany you on your fishing adventure. After a fulfilling day on the water, indulge in fine dining and all inclusive attentive service at the lodge, ensuring unparalleled comfort for our guests.
Located at the northernmost tip of the Bahamas archipelago, approximately 180 miles off the coast of Florida, the Abacos are a group of islands that cradle the eastern edge of Grand Bahama Island.
Nestled on the western edge of the island, Abaco Lodge is the exclusive bonefishing resort in the Marls, which is encompassed by a recently designated National Park. Within the Marls, characterized by an average depth of about four feet and minimal tidal influence, lies one of the Bahamas’ premier bonefisheries.
At The Abaco Lodge, the experienced guides possess intimate knowledge of every nook and cranny of this pristine area. From the enticing blue holes that lure juvenile tarpon and barracuda to the productive bonefish flats and the multitude of cays extending from Cross Harbour in the south to well beyond the lodge in the north, you’ll have the opportunity to explore new and unpressured waters each day.

Abaco’s vast and sheltered Marls region is a true wilderness flats area, spanning 300 square miles and capable of fitting 13 Manhattans within its footprint. Instead of bustling cabs and skyscrapers, this pristine area is dotted with unpopulated pine forest islands, mangrove cays, and a thriving population of bonefish.
Abaco Lodge, located centrally within the Marls, provides anglers with access to the entire region, from Cross Harbour in the south to the northern extremities off the west side of Treasure Cay. A short twenty-minute skiff ride due west puts anglers within reach of the Marls’ ocean-side edge, where bonefish averaging 2 to 4 pounds are abundant. Larger fish in the 5 to 8 pound range, though fewer in number and more challenging to catch, can also be found. Additionally, permit and juvenile tarpon are frequent targets, and barracuda, jack crevalle, and various shark species also inhabit the Marls.
In addition to the flats, Abaco also offers incredible blue water fishing opportunities. The lodge can help coordinate trips with experienced captains for targeting species such as marlin, sailfish, dorado, wahoo, and tuna, depending on the season. However, it’s recommended to book early as the best captains tend to fill up quickly, and there may be an additional charge for this type of fishing.
When fishing in the Marls, guests will use meticulously maintained Maverick flats skiffs. The runs to the flats from the lodge dock can vary from 10 to 45 minutes, and all skiffs are designed for fishing and comfort, featuring padded seats, backrests, line mats, Yeti coolers and lean bars on the bow. They are also equipped with first aid kits and an emergency satellite phone for added safety.
